The South African government has announced a further extension of the Zimbabwean Exemption Permits (ZEPs), now valid until 28 May 2027. This decision provides welcome relief to thousands of Zimbabwean nationals who have built their lives, careers, and families in South Africa.
According to the gazetted notice, ZEP holders will continue to enjoy lawful status in South Africa, allowing them to live, work, and study in the country during this period. The extension also ensures that ZEP holders will not face arrest, detention, or deportation based solely on the expiry of their permits, provided they continue to comply with other immigration laws.
This development offers ZEP holders valuable time to assess their long-term immigration options and, where possible, transition to more permanent visa categories.
